Liverpolitan is an online magazine offering intelligent insight, analysis and comment on the Liverpool City Region and the world around it.

Whether we’re covering politics, culture, the arts or anything else, we look to stimulate debate and seek out perspectives across the political spectrum.

Run by volunteers, Liverpolitan is for those who are passionate about Liverpool and want its future to be better than its present. It’s for people who understand that we can’t go on as we are, with the same dreadful governance, the same hard-luck stories, the same old, over-heated excuses and low expectations.

We want Liverpool to take its place in the world, to want more, demand better and make it happen. And we’re going to get there by being analytical, imaginative, and entrepreneurial. We’ll slay the old shibboleths, step where others fear to tread. Be bold and smart and impact the world around us, come what may.

Editorial

How are articles edited?

If Liverpolitan receives a submission which we’d would like to take forward, our Editor will work with the author to review and provide feedback in a collaborative two-way process. The Editor proof-reads submissions, fact-checks claims, proposes edits where necessary and ultimately has the final decision on whether to publish submitted material.

How should our authors research their articles?

Authors are expected to a) write with fact-checking in mind; b) be ready to provide explanations for their sources on request; c) be open to discuss and respond to questions; and (d) conduct their research. Occasionally, Liverpolitan may pursue 'new information' or 'new lines of inquiry' which may be obtained through Freedom of Information Requests or surveys.

How can I contribute to the Liverpolitan?

We offer an open invitation to all willing and enthusiastic contributors who accord with our guiding principles, so feel free to contact us with any ideas or insights for articles.

Correction of errors and misinformation

Factual errors are unfortunately a hazard of publishing any written content. Liverpolitan makes best efforts to avoid them but as voluntary contributors we’ll occasionally make mistakes. When we do, we’ll be honest and open about it and endeavour to correct them quickly. Please contact the editorial team if you spot anything.

Balance and right to reply

Liverpolitan is here to provide passionate stakeholders with a platform to raise constructive questions and provide personal views, concepts and ideas. It will therefore not offer equal weight of opinion to all matters covered but may offer a right to reply at our discretion. For matters where there are a wide range of views and opinions within the editorial group, Liverpolitan will often seek to offer a debate with views from both sides.

Authorship

Liverpolitan’s contributors are volunteers and are free to publish under their real names; pen names or to maintain anonymity at their own discretion, although their identities will be known to our Editorial Team. Some features may be collaborated on by a number of different people pooling their knowledge, but whatever the arrangements, the same high editorial standards will apply. Liverpolitan takes the view that the content of each article is more important than its creator and should be good enough to stand on its own merits. Sometimes Liverpolitan uses unnamed sources who may talk to our contributors off the record because they wish to remain anonymous, but we will always seek to verify that their input is reliable and credible.

Copyright of our content

Third parties are encouraged to share, distribute, display or adapt Liverpolitan’s articles or presentations for non-commercial purposes. However, the individual creative works including written copy, photos, videos, animations, voice-overs or any other material originating from our individual contributors operate under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike (CC BY-NC-SA) licence, and individual contributors maintain full copyright of their own work. When using this content, third parties must credit the original creator, or Liverpolitan as a whole. They must also make the new work available under the same license terms.

If a third party wishes to use material submitted by Liverpolitan’s contributors for commercial projects, they must acquire the written permission of the copyright holder and negotiate terms with them. However, Liverpolitan requests that it be kept informed when content is used by other media. Liverpolitan will stipulate occasions where some materials differ from this licence. This may include items with more, or less restrictions. Wherever this is the case, it will be specified.
